What it costs, who shows up, where we go, and what we will and won’t touch.
$39 books an in-person visit and comes straight off the price. Remote help is $39 for 30 minutes. Card only, and you see the rate before you book.
It’s our membership for folks who want a friendly tech person on call all year. For $14.99 a month you get two remote help sessions and an in-person visit included every year, 20% off the labor on any extra visits, and a Local Nerd a quick text away. No long-term contract, and you can cancel anytime.
Two remote help sessions and one in-person visit, all included. They are counted separately, so using one doesn't use up another. Your included visits reset on your renewal date each year and don't roll over. Your included visit covers the first hour at the $110 rate. Farther out, you pay the difference for that hour when you book: $20 in the 25 to 50 mile band, $35 in the 50 to 75 mile band.
You never need a membership. You can always book a single visit at our regular prices. Nerd on Call is for people who use us a few times a year: the included visits cover most of the dues on their own, the 20% off covers the rest if you ever book extra, and you have someone to text when a quick question comes up.
$14.99 a month, billed monthly. There's no long-term contract and you can cancel anytime from your account. A few fair-use details apply, and they're spelled out before you join.
Yes. Nerd on Call comes with a 30-Day Happiness Guarantee: if it's not for you, cancel within 30 days of joining and we'll refund your first month, as long as you haven't used an included remote session or in-person visit. It applies once per household, to your first month of dues. After that there's no contract, so you can still cancel anytime and won't be charged again.
Remote help works anywhere over the phone, with screen sharing through OkieNerd Connect (or the Nerd on Call app on an iPhone or iPad) when it helps. In-person visits come to the service address on your membership, wherever we have a Local Nerd, up to 75 miles from downtown of the city that Local Nerd works from, whichever state that address is in. The hourly rate is a little higher the farther we drive ($130/hr in the 25 to 50 mile band, $145/hr in the 50 to 75 mile band).
No. It's a courtesy text line for short, simple questions. Anything that needs real troubleshooting, a screen-share, or hands-on time is a remote or in-person visit, and members get 20% off those.
Yes. Every Local Nerd is interviewed by us first, then goes through a background check run by an independent screening company, which we pay for, before they can take a single job. They enter their details directly with that screening company, never with us. They also sign an agreement covering how they behave in your home, what they do with your information, and what they will and won't touch.
Not always; it depends who's available at the time you pick. When a Local Nerd who has helped you before is free, you're matched with them again.
Sometimes it's not the right fit, and that's okay. Call OkieNerd HQ at 580.400.7475 and we'll make sure you're not booked with that Local Nerd again.
No. $39 books your visit. That's all that moves today. It's not an extra fee; it comes straight off the price of your visit. The rest is charged at the end, once your Local Nerd has finished. Cancel with at least 12 hours' notice and the $39 comes back in full, automatically. A remote session is $39 to begin with, so booking one pays for it outright and there's nothing left to settle.
When your Local Nerd finishes, they'll hand you their phone (or text you a link, if it was a remote session). You'll see an itemized total: the price of the visit, any extra time, your deposit taken off, and what's left. You tap to confirm the work is done, you can add a tip if you'd like, and the balance is charged to the same card you booked with. If you have to leave before you get to that screen, the balance you agreed to when you booked is charged that evening: never extra time, and never a tip, because those are only ever added from the sign-off itself. If something still isn't right, there's a place on that same screen to tell us, and someone from OkieNerd will call you about it.
No, and please don't offer. Local Nerds aren't allowed to accept cash or checks, so you should never be asked for either. Everything is settled by card through the app. We accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Discover.
You can. By default we charge the same card you booked with, which is why nothing has to change hands at the end of your visit. If you'd rather use a different card, just tell your Local Nerd and they can take it right there on their device. It does need to be a card.
We never see or store your card number. Stripe holds the card, and we keep only a reference to it so we can charge the balance at the end of your visit. It's a one-time authorization for the visit you booked, not a subscription, and we can't charge you for anything else with it. Ask us any time and we'll remove it.
It depends which you pick. Remote help always starts with a phone call at your scheduled time, and we either solve it on the phone or send a secure screen-share link. For in-person visits, a Local Nerd shows up at your address at the scheduled time.
A friendly human who is good with this stuff, all to yourself for the hour. Your Local Nerd shows up (or calls), figures out what's going on, fixes it or sets it up, and explains it at your pace. We're happy to answer the same question twice. No jargon and no upsell.
Your time is reserved right away, with no waiting for us to confirm. You’ll get a confirmation text with your time and a link to change or cancel it yourself. If you gave us an email, you’ll also get the confirmation there, with a calendar invitation you can add in one tap, plus a separate payment receipt from Stripe for the deposit. Don’t see it within a few minutes? Check your spam folder for the email, or call 580.400.7475.
Yes, from the link in your confirmation text (or email, if you gave us one). You can change or cancel free of charge up to 2 hours before a remote session, or 12 hours before an in-person visit, and your deposit is refunded in full, automatically. An in-person slot reserves travel time both ways, so it needs more notice. Inside those windows we can no longer move the appointment online. You can still cancel it, but the deposit isn’t refunded, because that time was held for you and couldn’t be given to anyone else. Nothing beyond the deposit is charged. If that happens we’ll send you a single-use code for 10% off your next visit, good for 90 days. Rescheduling in good time updates the calendar invitation you already have, so you won’t end up with two.
Yes, always. Every remote job begins with our call to you at the time you booked, and there's nothing to install ahead of time. If we need to get on your screen, we'll text you a link right then.
Just your phone number and a short description of what's going on. For in-person visits we also grab your address so we know where to come.
At the time you booked. We don't call ahead to start the visit, we just arrive at the scheduled time. You'll get a text or push notification right before we head your way.
Remote help is $39 for the first 30 minutes. In-person is billed by the hour at a rate that is higher the farther we drive: $110/hr within 25 miles, $130/hr in the 25 to 50 mile band, and $145/hr in the 50 to 75 mile band. There is no separate travel fee. After that first block, time is billed in 30-minute increments at the same hourly rate. You pay a $39 deposit online when you book, and the rest when your Local Nerd finishes the visit.
We measure straight-line miles from downtown of the city that serves your area, not from one point in the middle of the state. The in-person hourly rate is higher the farther we drive ($110/hr within 25 miles, $130/hr in the 25 to 50 mile band, $145/hr in the 50 to 75 mile band), and past 75 miles we stick to remote help. If you tap the location button when you book, we use your address to land you on the right rate.
Remote help works anywhere, in any state, by phone and screen-share. In person, wherever we have a Local Nerd: addresses up to 75 miles from downtown of the city that Local Nerd works from, whichever state it is in. Each market has its own page listing the towns it reaches. Enter your ZIP when you book and we'll show what's available where you are.
No. We'll hook up and set up your TV, streaming, and devices, but we don't mount TVs, drill, or run cable inside walls. Any parts or hardware are billed separately.
We fix them. Slow, frozen, glitchy, locked out, won't connect, won't print, full of pop-ups: that's what we do, at your home or over the phone. The one thing we don't do is hardware repair, meaning we don't open a device up to replace a screen, a battery, or a part, and we don't solder. If your problem turns out to be a broken part, we'll tell you straight and point you to a good hardware shop.
Usually, yes. No picture, no sound, no signal, apps that won't load, a remote that quit, a streaming stick that won't connect: we fix those, and we set up new TVs and soundbars too. What we don't do is repair the TV itself. If the screen, backlight, or power supply has failed, that's a hardware repair or a warranty claim, and we'll tell you before you spend an hour on it.
No, those are hardware repairs and they take a parts shop. We're the ones to call for everything else on a phone: it's slow, it's full, it won't back up, the email quit, you're locked out, or you just got a new one and want everything moved over.
We can recover and back up files from a working device, and set up backups so it doesn't happen again. We don't do physical data recovery from a failed or dead drive, that needs a specialist lab, but we can point you to one.
Some problems come down to failed hardware or something only a manufacturer can handle. If that's the case, we'll say so and point you the right direction.
Yes. Patient, one-on-one help for older adults, at home or over the phone. We work at your pace, explain each step, and never rush you or talk down to you.
We teach free classes at libraries, senior centers and senior-living communities. It's free to the host and to everyone who comes, and nobody is sold anything in the room. The free classes page says what we teach and how to ask for one.
Yes, up to 75 miles from downtown of the city a Local Nerd works from, whichever state that address is in. Each market page lists the towns it reaches and their rate band, so you can check your own town before you book. Remote help is available anywhere by phone and screen-share.
Often, yes. Remote help is usually same-week and frequently same-day. Pick the earliest open time when you book, or call 580.400.7475 and we'll find the soonest slot.
Open times run two weeks out. Need a later date? Call 580.400.7475 and we'll set it up.
Yes. Job applications, benefits, insurance, Medicare, the DMV: anything that wants an account, a password and a document uploaded. A Local Nerd sits with you and stays until it's submitted. You do the typing if you want to, or we do it while you read over our shoulder.
We'll scan it, save it, give it a name you'll recognize and attach it to the right form, then show you where it lives so you can find it again next time. If it's stuck on an old computer or a phone, we'll get it off there first.
We can, and we don't sell internet service or take a commission from any provider. We read your bill with you, check what reaches your address, and tell you whether a change would save you money. More about internet help.
Call us and a person picks up, or book a visit and ask your Local Nerd everything in one go.
