In the community

Free tech classes for your town.

OkieNerd comes to your senior center, library, church or community room and teaches a class in plain English. It costs nothing for the host or for the folks who come. If your program could use one, this page is how to ask.

Free to host, free to attend. We bring the handouts; you provide the room.

Bring whatever you've got.

What a class looks like

About an hour, in a room of any size. OkieNerd teaches it. Folks bring their own phone, tablet or laptop if they have one, and the questions are as much the class as the outline is.

Nobody gets rushed or talked down to. We stay after for anyone who wants a minute one-on-one, and everyone leaves with a printed handout of what was covered and a little OkieNerd swag to take home.

How it usually starts

One email. Whoever runs the programs at a place people already trust writes to us, or a Local Nerd who lives in town passes along the name of a place that might like one, and the program picks the class their folks need most.

The four classes

Confidence for Seniors

Device basics, safe browsing, video calling and getting around apps. Friendly and never intimidating.

Beginner Cybersecurity for Everyday People

Passwords, scams, privacy basics and protecting yourself online.

Digital Decluttering and Mindful Tech Use

Organizing files, email, devices and digital life to cut the stress. Cleanup skills and better habits.

Smart Home Wellness Automation

Using a voice assistant for lighting, routines and reminders, and a calmer house.

Pick one, or ask for the set as a series. If your folks keep asking about something else, say so and we'll build the class around it.

Who can host one

Any place with a room, a date and a way to tell people. Senior centers, public libraries, community centers, churches, civic clubs, county health and wellness centers, tribal elder programs, and senior-living, assisted-living and nursing communities.

For a senior-living community we work with the activities director on the date and the room. Residents bring their own devices, and family members are welcome to sit in.

What it costs

Nothing. The class is free to the host and free to everyone who comes. OkieNerd covers the time and prints the handouts. There's no fee for the room, no minimum head count, and nothing to sign.

Nobody is sold anything in the room. The handout says how to reach us, and that's all.

How to ask

  1. Email hello@okienerd.com or call 580.400.7475. Tell us the place, the town, and which class sounds right. A rough idea of who comes is helpful.
  2. We pick a date together. A few weeks of notice is plenty.
  3. You tell your folks, we show up. A room with chairs is all we need. A TV or screen we can plug into is nice, not required.

Already know a Local Nerd? Tell them your place would like a class, and they'll pass it along to us.

Why we do it

A class is the easiest way to help a whole room at once. It's also how a town gets to know OkieNerd. Some of the folks in the room may call us someday.

Local Nerds live and work across Oklahoma. The map shows where.

Questions program directors ask

Is it really free?

Yes. It's free to the host and to everyone who attends. OkieNerd covers the time and the printed handouts. There's no catch and nothing to sign.

Who teaches the class?

OkieNerd does. The Local Nerds who make house calls in your town don't host or teach the classes themselves, so if one mentions the program to you, the class still comes from us.

How many people can come?

Whatever your room holds. Ten is a good class and forty is fine. For a large group we allow more time for the questions afterward.

Do people need to bring anything?

Their own phone, tablet or laptop if they have one, and their questions. Nobody needs to bring anything to follow along.

How long is a class?

About an hour, with time after for individual questions. We fit your schedule, whether that's a lunch program, an afternoon slot or an evening.

Can we run it as a series?

Yes. The four classes were written as a track, and a monthly or weekly series works well. One at a time is fine too.

Do you sell anything or sign people up?

No. Nobody in the room gets a pitch or gets signed up for anything. The handout says how to reach us, and that's all.

Can a senior-living or nursing community host one?

Yes. We work with your activities director on the date and the room, residents bring their own devices, and family members are welcome to sit in.

Which towns do you cover?

Anywhere in Oklahoma we can get to. The coverage page on this site shows the towns we serve. If yours isn't on it yet, ask anyway.

Can you teach something that is not on the list?

Usually. Tell us what your folks keep asking about and we'll put a class together around it.

Can a business, club or church group host?

Yes. A Rotary or Lions club, a church seniors group, a library friends group, an employer lunch-and-learn. Same class, still free.

What about help at home after the class?

Anyone who wants one-on-one help at home can book a visit the ordinary way, at the ordinary price. The class is separate and nobody is obligated to.
