Where Altus stands today.

In-person visits are open across this whole market, in every travel band that has towns in it. We're still hiring here: an open market has evenings, weekends and days nobody is covering.

Remote help by phone and screen-share already works at every address in this market, and it's part of the job wherever you live. A Local Nerd living here adds the half that can't be done over the phone. See what customers are told on the Altus page.

The ground you'd cover.

51 towns are measured from downtown Altus: 19 within 25 miles, 17 in the 25 to 50 mile band, 15 in the 50 to 75 mile band. They sit in Jackson, Greer, Harmon, Kiowa, Tillman and Beckham counties, plus Wilbarger and Hardeman counties in Texas. Every market reaches 75 miles from its downtown in three travel bands, and the farther bands pay a higher hourly rate because the drive is longer. You choose which bands you take, and you can change it later.

What the work looks like here.

This is farm and air base country and the work splits along those lines. In town, base families set a house up or take it down. Out in the county it's long drives to places where the nearest alternative is a hundred-mile round trip to a big-box counter, and the internet is whatever reaches. The corridor down into Texas pays the top travel band.

You keep the majority of every booking, and 100% of every tip. You see the split up front. Tips are paid out weekly with no commission taken.

You set your own availability. Open the times that suit you in Nerd HQ. A few evenings a week or full time, that part is your call.

Bookings come to you. When you're marked available, customers book your open time directly, with buffer time built in around each visit.

Nobody negotiates money at the door. Every booking takes a deposit up front and holds the card. The customer signs off on your phone at the end and the rest charges itself.

You're independent. Your own tools, any reliable and presentable vehicle, and free to work elsewhere whenever you like.

You have a team behind you. You get the Nerd HQ app, a direct line to HQ, a team that meets over video, and other Local Nerds to ask when something's strange.

Questions people in Altus ask.

Does this market go into Texas?

It does. Vernon, Quanah, Chillicothe, Childress and Wellington all fall inside the Altus rings. We measure miles from downtown Altus and ignore the state line, so those are ordinary bookings at the ordinary rates.

Altus is open. Is there still room?

Open means customers can book. It doesn't mean the week is full. Evenings, weekends and the outer bands are where the room is.

One form, then a real conversation.

Start to finish usually takes about one to two weeks, depending on scheduling and how fast your background check clears.

1

Apply online. About five minutes. No resume needed.

2

We read it. A real person reads every application, and if it looks like a fit, we reach out.

3

Interview. A video chat to meet you and walk through the role together.

4

Background check, and we pay for it. Only after we've talked. You enter your details with the screening provider, never with us.

5

Onboarding, and you're live. Your Nerd HQ account, your hours and a short orientation, then your first booking.

Markets with nobody in them are listed first. If your town isn't the one on this page, it's almost certainly on one of these.

This page describes an independent contractor opportunity and is not an offer of employment. Local Nerds are independent contractors, not employees: you set your own availability, use your own tools and vehicle, and are free to work elsewhere. Compensation is a revenue share paid on completed bookings. Nothing on this page guarantees any level of income or booking volume, in this market or any other.
