Local Nerd jobs in McAlester & Southeast Oklahoma

Be the first Local Nerd in McAlester.

McAlester is open for house calls, and nobody on the roster lives here now. The market runs on long drives in from the Ada and Durant markets: McAlester, Krebs, Hartshorne, Eufaula, Clayton and Stringtown all book in person, and thirteen towns east of them, Wilburton, Talihina, Red Oak, Poteau, Wister and Howe among them, have no in-person option at all. Forty-four towns across Pittsburg, Latimer, Atoka, Haskell and Le Flore counties, and this listing is how they get somebody local.

  • 14 towns here have no in-person option
  • Independent contractor, 1099

Where McAlester stands today.

In-person visits are open in this market, and 14 of its 44 towns, Wilburton, Panola and Clayton among them, are still out of reach. They have no in-person option today and are served remotely, by phone and screen-share. A Local Nerd here who takes those drives turns them on.

Remote help by phone and screen-share already works at every address in this market, and it's part of the job wherever you live. A Local Nerd living here adds the half that can't be done over the phone. See what customers are told on the McAlester page.

The ground you'd cover.

44 towns are measured from downtown McAlester: 20 within 25 miles, 21 in the 25 to 50 mile band, 3 in the 50 to 75 mile band. They sit in Pittsburg, Latimer, Atoka, Haskell, Le Flore and Hughes counties. Every market reaches 75 miles from its downtown in three travel bands, and the farther bands pay a higher hourly rate because the drive is longer. You choose which bands you take, and you can change it later.

What the work looks like here.

Southeast Oklahoma is hill country and the drives take longer than the mileage suggests, which is why the outer bands pay what they do. The towns are small, people know each other, and a Local Nerd who does good work in Hartshorne or Krebs hears about it from the next three customers. Lake Eufaula brings the second home and cabin work in season, and the rest of the year it's ordinary houses that haven't had anybody competent out in years.

You keep the majority of every booking, and 100% of every tip. You see the split up front. Tips are paid out weekly with no commission taken.

You set your own availability. Open the times that suit you in Nerd HQ. A few evenings a week or full time, that part is your call.

Bookings come to you. When you're marked available, customers book your open time directly, with buffer time built in around each visit.

Nobody negotiates money at the door. Every booking takes a deposit up front and holds the card. The customer signs off on your phone at the end and the rest charges itself.

You're independent. Your own tools, any reliable and presentable vehicle, and free to work elsewhere whenever you like.

You have a team behind you. You get the Nerd HQ app, a direct line to HQ, a team that meets over video, and other Local Nerds to ask when something's strange.

Questions people in McAlester ask.

How new is this market?

It opened in September 2026, and since October it has run on drives in from neighboring markets. The calendar isn't full.

Does it reach Poteau and the Arkansas side?

Poteau, Wister and Howe are in the outer band measured from downtown McAlester, and Wilburton, Talihina, Red Oak and Kinta sit closer in. No drive reaches any of them today, so they're on remote help. Farther east than that measures into other markets. Tell us your town when you apply and we'll tell you which queues you'd sit on.

One form, then a real conversation.

Start to finish usually takes about one to two weeks, depending on scheduling and how fast your background check clears.

Markets with nobody in them are listed first. If your town isn't the one on this page, it's almost certainly on one of these.

This page describes an independent contractor opportunity and is not an offer of employment. Local Nerds are independent contractors, not employees: you set your own availability, use your own tools and vehicle, and are free to work elsewhere. Compensation is a revenue share paid on completed bookings. Nothing on this page guarantees any level of income or booking volume, in this market or any other.
