Local Nerd jobs in Guymon & the Oklahoma Panhandle

Become a Local Nerd in Guymon.

The Panhandle is a long way from everything, and it needs a Local Nerd who lives there. Forty-nine towns, all three bands open, and enormous distances between them. We're hiring here.

  • Every travel band open and running
  • Independent contractor, 1099
  • You set your own availability
  • Typically $47 to $87 an hour

Where Guymon stands today.

In-person visits are open across this whole market, in every travel band that has towns in it. We're still hiring here: an open market has evenings, weekends and days nobody is covering.

Remote help by phone and screen-share already works at every address in this market, and it's part of the job wherever you live. A Local Nerd living here adds the half that can't be done over the phone. See what customers are told on the Guymon page.

The ground you'd cover.

49 towns are measured from downtown Guymon: 7 within 25 miles, 18 in the 25 to 50 mile band, 24 in the 50 to 75 mile band. They sit in Texas, Beaver and Cimarron counties. Every market reaches 75 miles from its downtown in three travel bands, and the farther bands pay a higher hourly rate because the drive is longer. You choose which bands you take, and you can change it later.

What the work looks like here.

This market reaches into Texas, Kansas and a corner of Colorado, and nothing is close to anything. The job out here is as much about turning up as it is about the fix, because for a lot of these customers the alternative is a two-hour drive to a store that will keep the machine for a week. Expect satellite and fixed-wireless internet, cattle and feedlot offices running on home-grade gear, and a large Spanish-speaking population in and around Guymon, which is a big help if you speak Spanish.

You keep the majority of every booking, and 100% of every tip. You see the split up front. Tips are paid out weekly with no commission taken.

You set your own availability. Open the times that suit you in Nerd HQ. A few evenings a week or full time, that part is your call.

Bookings come to you. When you're marked available, customers book your open time directly, with buffer time built in around each visit.

Nobody negotiates money at the door. Every booking takes a deposit up front and holds the card. The customer signs off on your phone at the end and the rest charges itself.

You're independent. Your own tools, any reliable and presentable vehicle, and free to work elsewhere whenever you like.

You have a team behind you. You get the Nerd HQ app, a direct line to HQ, a team that meets over video, and other Local Nerds to ask when something's strange.

Questions people in Guymon ask.

Is speaking Spanish required?

It isn't required, but it helps a lot here. Guymon has a large Spanish-speaking community, and being able to work in Spanish opens up customers who'd otherwise go without help.

The distances out here are serious. How does that work?

The pay accounts for it. The three travel bands pay progressively more per hour, most of this market sits in the farther ones, and you choose which of them you take. Nobody's dispatched somewhere they didn't opt into.

One form, then a real conversation.

Start to finish usually takes about one to two weeks, depending on scheduling and how fast your background check clears.

1

Apply online. About five minutes. No resume needed.

2

We read it. A real person reads every application, and if it looks like a fit, we reach out.

3

Interview. A video chat to meet you and walk through the role together.

4

Background check, and we pay for it. Only after we've talked. You enter your details with the screening provider, never with us.

5

Onboarding, and you're live. Your Nerd HQ account, your hours and a short orientation, then your first booking.

Markets with nobody in them are listed first. If your town isn't the one on this page, it's almost certainly on one of these.

This page describes an independent contractor opportunity and is not an offer of employment. Local Nerds are independent contractors, not employees: you set your own availability, use your own tools and vehicle, and are free to work elsewhere. Compensation is a revenue share paid on completed bookings. Nothing on this page guarantees any level of income or booking volume, in this market or any other.
