Grand Lake is a good example of why one Local Nerd isn't enough. Grove has one, and that one drive reaches fifty miles from downtown: Miami, Vinita, Jay, Pryor, Salina, and over the lines into Bella Vista, Neosho and Joplin. Past fifty miles, apart from a handful of Kansas towns, it's remote help only: Cassville, Monett and Aurora in Missouri, Eureka Springs and Huntsville in Arkansas and Pittsburg in Kansas have no in-person option, and one calendar can't hold the first two rings either. We need a second Local Nerd here, one who's willing to drive.

Grand Lake is second-home country, and second homes need different things than year-round houses: internet that stays up while nobody's there, a camera somebody wants to check in February from somewhere warmer, a TV the grandkids can run without calling for help. The season opens with visits where folks arrive for the summer and nothing works, and closes with visits to get it all through the winter. In between are three states' worth of small towns that have never had anybody come out.

The Local Nerd we have drives the first two rings, out to fifty miles from downtown Grove, and that's a lot of ground for one calendar. The outer ring, fifty to seventy-five miles, is mostly out of reach: a handful of Kansas towns book in person, and Cassville, Monett, Eureka Springs and Pittsburg are on remote help. A second Local Nerd here would turn the rest of that ring on and take the overflow in the first two.
